There they are. The people you need to know. Are you just going to stand there? Are you going to let this valuable opportunity slip by? Not if I have anything to say about. And, yes, I’ve got a lot to say about it! It’s National Awareness Month – Time to follow your passion, live your dream, and get passionate about the one thing that will change your life forever… networking.

Energy, enthusiasm, excitement are the keys to effective networking. I learned a long time ago that I must elicit passion to others in order to keep them fully engaged. That passion was built by getting in tune with me, what I love, what I feel strongly about and what I wish to convey to others. This self-awareness helped me build the confidence necessary to develop relationships that positively changed my life forever.

As President of NAPW, the largest professional women’s networking organization in the country, my team and I work tirelessly to provide you with all the necessary benefits, resources and tools so that you have the best networking opportunities available. It’s your passion for networking, your commitment to fully engage in the moment and your willingness to show others your passion for your business, career or endeavor that will create lasting connections. It’s time to explore your inner greatness, embrace the “you” you were meant to be, a woman of courage, greatness and leadership willing to step out of her comfort zone, explore the unknown and give yourself the opportunity to live the life you want to live.

Remember: When it comes to networking, the power is in the now! So, stand strong and power up your networking passion with these helpful tips.

Shoulders Back, Head Up
Passion for networking is all about confidence. You must be an active participant in the process to receive the full potential of the networking moment. This means asking questions, showing interest in the other person and listening attentively. As I’ve pointed out before, it’s not all about you. It’s about the shared experience of building relationships with confidence.

Sparkle and Glimmer
Share your passion with everyone you meet. You love your business, your career, your other life endeavors, so let them shine through. Sharing your life success with others allows them to see the sparkle in your eye – your passion! In turn, they’ll share with you, which means, you’re on the road to creating a lasting connection with someone who could change your life forever.

Power Suit Up
Building relationships means that you are networking with some of the same people on a regular basis, just like you do at Local Chapter meetings. So, it’s important that your look, whether corporate, creative or professional, maintains the status of your position. You are your brand. Make sure your appearance – what you wear, how you carry yourself – reflects positively on you. When you look good, you feel good and the confidence exuded will make others want to get to know you more.

Relationship Power
As your network of supportive professional women expands, you’ll be amazed at how they will support your passions. Maybe there will be times when you have doubts about an endeavor or are questioning a business practice. That’s where your network comes in. They’re the women who understand you – because you’ve shown them your passion – and they’ll be there with a good pick-me-up of advice and comfort when the going gets tough. Why? Because you’ve built a great relationship with them and they understand that you would do the same for them.

Silence the Haters
My good friend, Randi Zuckerberg, once said, “…because if you have passion…if you have a love…if you have an interest, life is way too short just to put it on hold because of what other people think.” I couldn’t have said that better! Yes, there will always be naysayers; ignore them. And, if the voice within is diminishing your confidence; shut it down. Stand strong and carry on with passion, integrity and deep desire to succeed. And, you will! Your network of lasting connections and positive relationships will lift you to new heights of achievement – that’s what they are there to do. So, let them!

Now go ahead. Do it! Take a step. Extend your hand. And, say, “Hello.”

Here’s to you and networking passion!
