Star’s Corner: NAPW Local Chapters Spread the Red for Heart Health Month!
Impact! That’s what Local Chapters do—and they do it every single day.
NAPW members represented in Red for Heart Health Month, taking initiative and putting heart health and wellness on the front burner. I am so thankful for my NAPW family—we look out for each other and ensure that every woman is equipped with the power to prevent heart disease. Together, we accomplish amazing things!
Local Chapters held educational events last month to learn the facts about heart disease and stroke, and to raise funds for the American Heart Association and its Go Red for Women movement. Our health is the most important aspect of our lives. It’s essential to keep in touch with your body, listen to what it’s telling you and pay attention to warning signs. We all deserve to live long, healthy lives to achieve our goals and enjoy our personal and professional success.
NAPW members inspired with their leadership skills and generous hearts. Here are some outstanding Local Chapter events:
NYC | Chapter President Louise Newsome
Team NYC came together to support the AHA’s Go Red initiative and learned about the benefits of Transcendental Meditation (TM). Special guest speaker, NAPW member Jean Tobin—certified TM teacher— discussed the health benefits of meditation, useful techniques for natural stress relief and more. NAPW members networked over appetizers and refreshments while they watched a special live streaming of the AHA’s Red Dress Event where Chapter President Louise Newsome and Central Regional Manager Megan Wessels looked fabulous supporting the cause.
Waldorf | Chapter President Tammy L.S. Wright
Tammy and her team cooked up a recipe for success with a hearty cooking demonstration from an expert chef. NAPW members learned culinary tips and simple ways to prepare heart-healthy meals. You are what you eat—so eat heart-healthy!
Washington, DC | Chapter President Lauren-Nikai Harry
They’re prepaRED for anything! Lauren and her team invited representatives from the AHA to speak about the Go Red for Women movement and discuss the importance of heart health for women. Members watched the Red Dress Fashion Show as it aired live and they helped raise funds for the AHA. Making a difference is what it’s all about. Great work!
Chicago | Chapter President Crystal Spaeth
Oh, What A Night! All four NAPW Local Chapters in the Chicago area joined together for one big ladies’ night out in honor of Heart Health Month. The Chapters included Orland Park, Schaumburg, Naperville and Merrillville. Megan Wessels, NAPW Central Regional Manager, came to network the night away with NAPW members and guests. Attendees enjoyed some shopping, styling and spa sessions and participated in “Photos for Philanthropy” with Pepper from Peppers Party Pals. All proceeds benefited NAPW Foundation partner, the American Heart Association. Excellent work! Just loving that little pooch—RED Pepper! J
Midlothian | Interim Chapter President Pamela Biasca Losada
Sugars, oils, saturated fats, Oh My! Pamela and her team held their Chapter meeting to discuss heart disease prevention and risks—especially in foods. Guest speaker, Dr. Sherron Marquina, dispelled some dietary myths and talked about what women should and should not eat to protect their hearts and stay healthy. Share what you learned below in the comments!
Plano | Chapter President Marissa Stone
Red Dress – Red Wine – Everything’s Fine! Marissa and her team of NAPW professional women held their own Red Dress event complete with hors d’oeuvres, dinner and wine at an 1893 historic Victorian home-turned-restaurant. NAPW members networked in their red dresses and celebrated their heart health. Looking great, ladies!
Lexington | Chapter President Misty Dotson
Healthy hearts are in this year! Misty and her team gathered for networking and a livestream viewing of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection 2016 event in New York City. Attendees held important discussions about heart disease and stroke and became well-informed about risks, prevention and healthy lifestyle choices.
Orlando | Chapter President Judy Alderson
It’s a celebration of support! Judy and her team enjoyed their Go Red for Women Chapter event which included a livestreaming of the NYC Red Dress Fashion Show. NAPW members wore their red dresses for a fabulous evening of drinks, hors d’oeuvres, networking and vendors. Special guest—award-winning broadcast journalist Secily Wilson—shared her personal heart health story. A generous portion of the proceeds benefited the American Heart Association. It’s wonderful to see professional women coming together for such an important cause.
Many thanks to NAPW members and Local Chapter leadership teams for your incredible work! ♥
