Family Heritage: NAPW Local Chapters Share Their Stories

LC_message_header2

“As you begin to realize that every different type of music, everybody’s individual music, has its own rhythm, life, language and heritage, you realize how life changes,
and you learn how to be more open and adaptive to what is around us.”
Yo-Yo Ma (French-born Chinese American cellist)

My kids are all grown up and going into my 50th year makes me reflect and think . . . where did all that time go? Looking back at where I came from to where I am now—it has been such an amazing journey.

Raised pretty much with English conservative roots and a big sprinkle of Jewish heritage, I came to America when I was 21 and it has changed me more than I have taken the time to realize. When asked the question, “what is your heritage?” I now freely add the exotic Eastern European Jewish culture to my non-exotic English roots! Now my kids can proudly add their American culture to our family songbook, demonstrating how life changes and evolves even within one family structure.

Local Chapters explore and discuss family legacies and cultures in recognition of Family Heritage Month on the NAPW Foundation Calendar. With the diverse demographic of women who are members of NAPW, we are bound to have a rich collection of fascinating stories.

As Yo-Yo Ma wisely states, “…you realize how life changes, and you learn how to be more open and adaptive to what is around us.” The ability to accept and embrace growth and evolution is key to human development. If we do not evolve, we become stagnant and out of date. Staying relevant is something we strive for daily in our personal and professional lives.

NAPW members are forming their own rich heritage by holding Chapter events around the country several times a month, building a lineage of encounters, connections and professional development. NAPW provides members with a platform to share personal and professional stories through our social media channels, newsletters, blogs and press releases. Make sure you stay connected with all things NAPW this month, and experience the beauty and power of our collective heritage.
