The key to a successful blog post in regards to getting traffic is the keyword search and optimizing your blog to be found. The most read blog posts I’ve ever done are ones that give my audience what they want: “The Top 5…”; “How to…”; “3 Common Mistakes…”. etc. Find out where you can rank with certain key words that are pertinent to your industry and go after those terms. Don’t try to compete with the big-wigs out there, find out where your competition is NOT ranking and go for those! We use Market Samurai for this aspect.

Bravo Tami! Couldn’t have said it better myself. If I may add one thing, write it as though you are talking to a friend or at least a captive audience. Keeping the message simple and direct is key. Don’t ‘blah, blah, blah,’ on and on with things that are not relevant to the topic or like your writing a legal document. (nobody like a show off). When I right them, I always try to end with a question…. why?…. to leave them wanting more of coarse. 🙂
